Lookupper Privacy policy

I’m Aleksei Vekhov, and I make Lookupper. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), I’m the controller of your personal data, and this page is the privacy policy for the lookupper.com site and the Lookupper apps.
What never leaves your computer
- Screenshots: Lookupper reads the text from them on your computer and doesn’t send them anywhere. It can’t record video at all.
- Everything you look up in offline dictionaries or translate offline.
- Your database of saved words and the app’s settings.
What Lookupper collects and why
1. Running Lookupper for Windows and Lookupper Pro
This applies to everyone who uses Lookupper for Windows and everyone who buys Lookupper Pro.

Legal basis: the terms of use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). They stay in effect until you ask for your data to be deleted.
2. Answering emails, feedback and complaints
This applies to everyone who writes to support or sends feedback or a complaint from the app.

3. Keeping the service safe

Lookupper for Mac and the app stores
Lookupper for Mac works offline and collects no personal data. It asks for Screen Recording access only to read words on your screen. It records no audio, and nothing it captures leaves your Mac.
The App Store and the Microsoft Store work under Apple’s and Microsoft’s own privacy policies, and Lookupper doesn’t receive your Apple or Microsoft account data.
What you have to give
Nothing. But without the computer ID, the app can’t use its cloud features or Pro, and without an email address, you can’t buy Pro. Lookupper makes no decisions about you by automated means.
Where your data is and who gets it
Lookupper’s servers are in Germany.
Lookupper uses these services, and each gets only what it needs:
- AI and speech providers, for cloud features;
- PayPro Global, for payments;
- email services;
- an error-tracking service;
- hosting and backup storage.
Some of these providers are in the USA or Canada. Transfers to them rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the EU’s adequacy decision for Canada. On request, you can get a copy of the safeguards and the names of the providers.
Deletion
When a retention period ends, the data is deleted within 30 days, and from backups within six months.
Security
- Only the controller has access to the servers and databases.
- Connections use HTTPS, and backups are encrypted.
- AI providers get only the data for cloud features, without your computer ID, Pro key or email address, so they don’t know who it comes from, and they don’t train on it.
Cookies
The site sets only one cookie, when you sign in to “My keys”, and has no analytics, advertising or tracking.
Your rights
You can:
- see what data Lookupper has about you and get a copy of it;
- get it in a machine-readable format;
- have it corrected;
- have it deleted;
- restrict how it is used;
- complain to the data protection authority in your country.
You can also object at any time to the uses based on legitimate interest: answering you if you don’t use Lookupper, protecting the service and showing your review.
Write to creator@lookupper.com, preferably from the email address you used to buy Pro or to write to support. You’ll get an answer within a month. If you use Lookupper without Pro, it knows your computer only by an ID it can’t link to you, so an email request can’t be matched to that data.
